Hi Eric,
I am in the Chi Wah Learning Space on campus, I should have mentioned this “library”-thing before. The computer at the university only has English Typing, well, that, I have to write this email in my childish english. It is interesting to read Pinyin + English, but I have to read it out to better understand. I hope I can read papers all day, but I am going home later. Meine Katze wants to go home. In case she is growing too bored on my legs, I am supposed to leave now. This morning I ordered Mocha from starbucks, but I cannot finish this Trenta size cup of drinks.
These days, I spend about 10 min per day practicing yoga on my bed, better than none, ha. In order to retain my physical health, I have to reach out for more activities other than sitting bf the computer all day long. You keep saying death, I don’t think it is necessary to consider this “MUST”, as long as you are healthy and without any disease, which is already a successful being. Why not just live healthily and happily? ANYWAY, I have to exercise more.
The paper I am reading now is quite difficult to understand, I’ve spent a few days on it. Next Monday we have to present the thesis proposal and submit the written detailed proposal, off of nothing I have now.😅 Actually, I am a bit clear about what I wanted to do 1 year ago, academically. You must know that I like to sing Cantonese songs, one of which is “Wedding Card Street”. It has totally gone. A pity that I cannot see what it was like bf, streetscape that reflects the identity of HK. When you are walking on the street or capture the high-rise constructed cityscape, you will know it is HK. But this street lost its identity, all the activities, physical environment as old but prosperous and the sense of place. Through reading, I learnt that it involves discourse about politics and power. But I don’t want to go in that direction. What I want to do research on is about the human mind, the sentimental attachment to the old street of those original residents. I blv you will feel the same grief as me once you know that those original pp were forced to move out with little monetary compensation to find biz and housing themselves elsewhere. (difficult for them to do, for priced properties here) I am not sure what philosophy I can use to analyze the relation btw pp and place, phenomenology? social-cultural structuring? I am not familiar with them… If you can, plz give me some advice on the choosing of philosophical methodology.
On what you wrote about Chaoyue, I think of the signified and signifier. Link here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Signified_and_signifier

I agree with you, “I feel like I am one day closer to death and I need to grasp every min to study.
Hope you are in a dream now.
Best,
